Protect your investment

A carefully selected area rug or carpet is truly the icing on your decorating cake.  It can take a room from ordinary to warm and inviting or sleek and modern while tying in all of the elements in the space.  Once you’ve set your heart on the perfect floor covering, protect it with some easy maintenance tricks.

…From Sun Damage

To minimize sunlight damage on your area rug, you should turn it every six months.  Doing so allows for an even amount of exposure and prevents your rug from fading in spots.

To a lesser extent, the same can be said for your carpet. While you can’t actually move your carpet, you can move the furniture on top of it. Think about rotating around your room every now and then to more evenly expose your carpet to natural light and prevent fading.  This can also help to minimize “crushing” – more on that in a later post.

…From Liquid Spills

A quick response and a few small steps can take care of almost any spill.  Most importantly, move quickly to blot up liquids before they can soak in with a white paper towel (avoid paper towels with colored patterns printed on them.) It’s important to blot; not rub.

Any residual stain can then be cleaned with the solution appropriate for your rug’s make-up.  Most rugs (made of Wool, Acrylic, Nylon, Olefin or Polyester) can be gently cleaned with a mild detergent or carbonated water.

Revamping your Colorado Wood Floors

Its that time of year again when we all fire up the furnace and dry out our already arid home to single digit humidity. This in turn shrinks our wood floors allowing gaps the width of quarters (or worse) to show up seemingly overnight.

For those of us who have had wood for years in Colorado this is no great surprise, but imagine having just moved to the state and installing thousands of dollars of wood floors in your new home. Just to awake one morning with gaps in your new floor.

Concerned people should contact our stores so we can give them the expectations of wood in an arid climate. This could prove to be key for the happiness of the consumer, ours and others. The good news is there is a happy ending. Come spring the floors expand back to the same as they were the day they were installed. For more information Check out Carpetmilloutletstores.com
